Full Version: Organic Shape Help

Fellow MoI users,

I've spent the past few years building models - but they have all been hard surface type models for the most part. I build mostly spaceship models for games, and want to undertake a project to increase my MoI skill in more organic forms.

I'm trying to figure out how to best model this ship, and I'm struggling a little bit with the main body form and the "wings" on the right way to build it. I figure someone here knows something about getting started with the more organic forms of modeling, so wanted to seek some guidance.

Thanks,

Ryan.

Very General Concepts :)

Don't try to make tiny fillets but "Trim" (Boolean Diff) a general form filleted
Some Glasses or structuring (Function Offset / Inset)
Deform a simple form (Flow Function)

Render with the free real time Simlab Composer Lite! :) (max 1920 * 1080)

Maybe start like this:

7 Splines Loose Loft:

3 Splines Normal Loft + Mirror+Blend

1 Spline Revolve

Nice spaceship Ryan! : - )

Pilou your instructions are always helpful! Did not know that the 'inset' command works so nice in the case of fillets too. : - )

Zarkow, just now did see it: great! Very precious instructions!

Wow, the speed with which you guys can do this is amazing....

I feel I've gotten fairly good at hard surface modeling in MoI, so this will be a challenge for me (which is good). Some good ideas here, I'll have to give it a go and see what I can work out. Probably take me 10x what it takes you guys, but like my hard surface skills, my organic skills should improve over time as well.

Thanks for taking the time to help me!

Ryan.

zarkow - I think all of us would love to see you make a series of tutorials!

Maybe a spaceship is a good project.
