Full Version: Import edges without faces (3d) to MoI

I would like to export edge loops from Modo and import it to MoI. I`ve tried _importObj but I can`t import edges without faces. DXF export from Modo seems to be broken.

I would like to build curves inside Modo (based on 3d scan) and import it to MoI for create clean cad surface.

Try Blender, and export as DXF only the edge with options as lines or polyline without projections.

Hi bartosh44,
This is a simplest way:
Import an object using importObj, select any edge, ctrl+a, ctrl+с, delete the object, ctrl+v

Beauty of simplicity! :)

I totally agree with you, that method of copying and pasting is much simpler.

Hi bartosh, there's also an OBJ to 3DM wireframe converter here:
http://moi3d.com/resources#Obj23dmWireframe_converter

That will load an OBJ file and save out a 3DM file that has line segments generated for the polygon edges.

DXF export from Modo probably makes what's called a "polyface mesh" entity in the DXF file, which is a polygon mesh made up of triangles and quads. MoI's DXF importer does not read those types of entities out of a DXF file, it only loads wire type entities like lines, circles, arcs, polylines and splines.
