Full Version: OT: a beautiful and very smooth 3D print

Hi all,

because i believe that also some of you do 3D printing i like to show you this model,
a talented 3D artist modeled and printed. I am very surprised that the print is so
smooth in quality and i can't believe that this is done with a consumer 3D printer,
as understood a Formalbs Form2 printer... amazing!

(maybe a bit of sanding and airbrushing was done after printing, i dunno...)

Hi Pilou,

i think it doesn't matter which software was used...

Artists can do very nice hardsurface models with MoI too! :-)

I only wanted to show how beautiful a 3D print, done with
a consumer 3D printer, can look...

Best regards
Stefan

Gorgeous and absolutely amazing!

I tell ya, kids these days have it where they can MAKE (3D print) their own toys now - in my day, we had to make the best use of Lego and Erector sets...

Hi Stefan,

I would think judicious use of vapor polishing was used to get those smooth surfaces. Thanks for sharing that model. It is impressive indeed.

Hi Chipp,

i did not thought about vapor polishing, like people do with those ABS plastic printers.

Because this interests me very much i asked the author at CGTalk and hope he gives
us an answer.

Wow, very impressive indeed. I wouldn't even expect this quality from a commercial service like Shapeways or Sculpteo.

Hi Metin,

if commercial services, like Shapeways etc., would add the Stratasys J750 3D Printer
to their arsenal we could see such quality... ;-)

Hi Marc,

thanks a lot, i didn't noticed the little arrow on the right side of the page...

So, excellent print quality and then combined with old school scale modeling techniques, fantastic!

Best regards
Stefan

It's hard too see on the pictures but the resolution seems pretty good.

@ Stefan: Yes, I find it odd that certain 'home' 3D printers and materials are better than what the big 3D printing services have to offer.

I'm still waiting for smooth, glossy, toy store quality plastic to become available right out of the printer.
