This looks really great - I like such dark GUIs a lot!

One question though: I and several other users I spoke to have a problem with the "tabs" in MoI.
To me, the brighter tab looks selected, not the darker one. No matter how many years I'm using it, I still get it wrong half the time. When there are three tabs next to each other it's a bit easier to get right, but with the Construct/Transform pair, I personally never have a clue which one is supposed to be active - I need to look at the available tools to understand it.
Recently I taught MoI to a woman who is really fluid using all kinds of software and it was interesting to see how even after a week of using it she still got it wrong most of the time.

It's one of the major design flaws for me in the MoI GUI actually - the tabs are not tabs at all, since they visually don't connect to the box they are attached to (they are closed at the bottom and don't have the same colour as the background of the box they are supposed to represent), nor are they changing to different front/back looks nor is the colour really obvious.

Your design does the same to my brain - the selected tab looks unselected to me.

So I wonder: Is it possible to have the selected tab open at the bottom and use the same background colour as the box it connects to while unselected tabs are darker (basically like CS6)?

Tabs are a funny thing, they either work directly on the brain stem or they don't work at all and need active thinking - which goes against every GUI-design-grain I have ;-)

Cheers,

Tom

Hi
i am using the dark UI with orange tap's from here http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=6025.1
It really motivate me, just when i open Moi (even though Moi motivate me by itselfe) and make me want to design something :-)
I wonder if it is possible to change the tap colurs to orange in your UI or i should stay with the UI i have and then just use your icons?

@Hep

Yes I could do a version with orange tabs (but it will not be the main version)

Hi
No, that is no problem that it is not the main version. With a little guidens i have no problem with doing a little tweeking too. Lately i have used Moi a lot, and It would be very nice with that dark/orange look together with the updated icons.

Little update

What do you prefer ?
The first one is more legible (more easy to see) while the second one is better looking (my point of view)

The second one do look better. Perhaps a small reflection or light shaddow would make it easyer to see....

Hi Hep,

I saw you are motivated with my UI zenox3d dark version.I'm glad you like it,and that makes you to design something with it.Maybe I made some distract elements, but it looks pretty modern and fresh.Maybe in the future I will try to create it also modern, but more pleased to the eyes for longer using.Moi3d and moi users deserved it.

Best Regards from zenox3d

Hi zenox3d

Yes it is very cool looking. Somtimes when i have to do somthing else on my Computer I open Moi just incase - and the dark/orange look makes me start desingning.

Over the years (starting with version 1 beta) i have showed Moi3D to all my friends and recomented it every where i it was possible and they could see the bennefit of Moi but with the Dark/Orange theme they all say WOW - and start asking if we should do something :-)

Hey there,

I'm really busy these days with Baselworld coming the 27th march

Doing a hella lot of work for Rolex (most of it in MoI 3D) :)

I will try to work on it this weekend, it will be released when it's really polished (currently using it at work everyday)

Still have a lot of icons left to do...

Love it. When can we use it? A new logo wouldn't hurt either... ;-)

@Apophis

Yes!

Things are a bit busy for me since I'm quitting my day job to go full freelance (1s september)

But I still have this project in mind, I will try to work on it a bit the next weeks.

I'm using it every day at work so I know what to improve, just need to find the time.

I really love this dark UI, but the dimensions given for a selected object (in the box in the upper right corner, underneath the name of the selection and the style) is almost invisible unless it is selected.

The visibility is great when it's highlighted, but I'd rather not have to go over to the corner of my screen and highlight every time I want to check the dimensions on something.

Could someone direct me to the code line where I can change this?

Thanks!
