Full Version: How to simplify a surface

Hi,

Is it possible to simplify a surface ?

I have imported a OBJ file with the MoI native function and MoI has made great job from 335 000 faces to 400 surfaces.
I think the result is pretty clean because original was, without a doubt, a CAD modeling.
The problem is the number of points generated...
The bigger surface has more than 1 million points.

Is it possible to reduce it ?

I don't remember having seen a such function or script.

Thanks

Hi Phiro, sorry no there isn't currently a surface simplify method in MoI.

re: 335 000 faces - that's really way too dense. The SubD converter is intended to be used to convert sub-d control cages which should usually be fairly sparse.

If you're converting dense scan data you'll probably need a reverse engineering tool rather than the sub-d converter.

Why not use the Decimation Master of ZBrush ?
it has some parameters inside for resolve maximum of problems or whishing results!
Of course that is not free...if you have not ZBrush maybe you must find someone who have this prog! ;)

Maybe Blender has also this sort of thing...

There is mesh Decimation in Blender and Meshlab too

Thank you all for these possible solutions.
