Full Version: Distorted edge appears on the cylinder

Hi, I'm trying to create the following shape.

To create this shape, a cylinder with spheres at both ends is made to crawl across the surface of the object and Boolean.
I'm almost able to create the intended shape, but there is an artifact.

Now, I'm verifying each operation to find the cause of the artifact.

So I found a little strange phenomenon there, so let me ask you a question.
When a sphere is placed on the edge of the cylinder and joined, a distorted edge appears on the cylinder.

There is no problem with cylinders made with Extrude.
When the cylinder is made by Sweep, distorted edges appear.

My procedure requires the use of sweep. Does anyone have an answer?

Hi marzRX,

I see the same problem, but only if I sweep both circles. If I sweep a single circle then boolean union between the cylinder (resulting from sweep) and a sphere works fine. In your screenshot it looks like the bent cylinder has a constant diameter. So, maybe sweeping 1 circle will give the shape that you want.

Hi, Peer

Thank you. Your answer is helpful.

Single circle sweep work fine. I will also try about the curved sweep.

Yes. same diameter. :)

Thank you ! I can now make it without artifacts.

I have had Boolean-Union failures for cylinders and spheres, and Boolean-Diff failed even if sphere and cylinder were combined.
All of these problems have been eliminated and modeling can now be done in a short time. ;)
