V4 beta is working for me in Big Sur, however I cannot get V3.2 to launch. Is that expected behavior?

V3.2 is not 64 bit

Mac system report thinks V3.2 is 64 bit...V3.2 is crashing in Mojave as well, but it does try to start. Neither V3.2 or V4 beta will start on my Mojave VM in Parallels.

Hi jtucker,

Yes, that's expected. Just like Catalina OS, MoI v3.2 will not be able to run on Big Sur because Apple removed support for 32-bit programs there.

That's great to hear that V4 is working ok though. I expect that V4 should be more resilient to new Mac OS releases than V3 was.

Hi jtucker,

re:

For v3 it's only the outermost "Wineskin" wrapper that is 64-bit, that's why it's giving you that mistaken report. But the inner workings of v3 using Wine is 32-bit.

It should be working on Mojave, is there a particular error message being reported?

Any particular error message or crash reports?

Hi jtucker, thanks for posting the crash report files.

For MoI_2020-11-17-073509_Johns-Mac.crash, the crash is happening because the viewport display mechanism using OpenGL is failing to initialize. In the v4 final release instead of crashing this should now put up a dialog saying that the graphics card setup could not be initialized. But MoI will not be usable in this environment. This is when you're running the Mac OS inside a VM?

For moi_report7.zip - that seems to be an error in the Wine emulation system that the MoI v3 Mac version uses. Is this also when running Mac OS inside a VM or normally?

Michael,

Both are running in a Parallels VM of Mojave. I made this as a back up plan to run legacy 32 bit apps. It seems some other apps that are graphics intensive are having issues as well.

Hi jtucker, yes sorry I don't think that running inside the Parallels VM environment will be supported for the MoI Mac version. It seems to be limited in the graphics card emulation.

But MoI v4 is now 64-bit and can run natively in new OS versions where 32-bit support has been dropped by Apple.

MOI 3D seems fine under Big Sur on my Macbook Pro.

Hi pauland, yes I have not had any reports of problems on Big Sur with MoI version 4.
