Use a spiral for the top curve?

Used free meshlab to convert to Obj
Use the free MoI converter Obj23dmWireframe converter to convert obj to 3dm
The model look pretty flat.

Pretty good site here: http://www.kcstrings.com/anton-krutz-geometry (fibonacci based:-)
Some good cross sections to work with?

You can use MoI view image to "trace over" a picture, to assist in selecting the "right" curves and lines...

"...typical violin scroll. When I (*HE*) copied Rabut’s scroll for the diagram above, I made use of a nice computer graphics algorithm for drawing approximations of scrolls by Taponecco and Alexa. Very simply, the algorithm approximates spirals by displaying them as tangent circular arcs, with their size relationships described by an arbitrary function. When I copied the violin scroll I did it using tangent 90° circular arcs of whatever size was needed to fit the section of the spiral I was working on. That the relationship of the lengths of the radii of these arcs could not be described by simple multiplication is a clear indication that the spiral of a typical violin scroll cannot be described by any logarithmic spiral. It is highly likely.... "

Trace 2D image of a good scroll using MoI arc cont command repetitively for short portions of the scroll...

ps (Myself) knows nothing about violins.

Hi Riko, the scroll part is probably going to be one of the more difficult areas, you are probably going to have to draw several guide curves and probably use several sweeps to make those parts.

There is a thread here where Marc has various images for the progress on making that particular model, maybe looking through them will help give you some ideas:

Great work klickoff,

The scroll was definitely the hardest part, I had another try at modeling it last year.
It's not as good as I would wanted it, another avenue I wanted to explore for the head is Subd with a moi base model.
But it's a real good exercise in exploring Moi's sweeps!

For the head it seems that less profiles works better.

No problem Riko!

Shaun, if you ask about mine, they were made with octane.
