Full Version: Feature Wishlist 2D Curve Import from CAD format.

Is there any chance that you will add any 2D curve import formats like DXF? I was going to get the Rhino plug-in for TurboCAD Pro, but they have stopped carrying it since their new versions include it. I have version 15 and versions 16 & 17 now can nativity read and write Rhino. I don't have the money to upgrade TurboCAD and buy MoI so something other than AI format would be nice. Just about any CAD program can export DXF so that would be a good place to start.

Hi Drakonsden,

I have TurboCAD Pro v12 as well as MoI v2.0. Try exporting your 2D drawing (I am assuming this is what you are trying to do) as an IGES file and then import it into MoI. That has worked for me in the past.

Let me know how it works out.

And that will bring in just the lines, radii, and curves without having to be converted to surfaces first?

I think it will bring in everything and you will have to seperate or delete the surfaces. Make sure in MoI in the options that you have IGES import set to not stitch it to solids.

Or you can delete the surfaces in TC first without saving and then try to export IGES.

I'll try to do this when I get home and let you know more later.

Hi Drakonsden, I do want to add DXF support in the future.

But yes IGES files can also contain curve information like lines, arcs, and 2D or 3D spline curves, not just only surfaces.

So it should be possible for you to use IGES format to transfer curve data over to MoI.

You could also try STEP and SAT formats for that as well.
