Full Version: Playing with MoI

Hi ...

Attached is an illustration of some articles of jewelery and baubles with some spiritual significance. Once I understood the
idea of 3d printing I started playing with some small pieces. Normally my projects are architecture with long, long cycles
from beginning to end so it was fun to do something with very short time results. These pieces are all less than 3" (75mm).

I have ordered printed prototypes of these and will probably make some changes or variations once I can hold them in my hands.

I will send photos when I have them all.

All modeled with MoI and rendered with the beta version of Flamingo nxt.

Hi eric, this is a really cool alternative project from your regular architecture work!

Will the printed model be the final step for these, or do you plan to make a mold out of them to produce some metal jewelry pieces?

I'm looking forward to seeing some photos of the physical parts!

I have not thought it through at all yet. It is possible to order printed, polished stainless steel objects. A couple of these will be done that way.

The little box is the only piece that has arrived and my wife (who I designed it for) is very pleased and sees the possibility that her Buddhist group could have
some printed for selling at fund raisers. Hers is terra cotta colored plastic and not very expensive but in stainless steel would be a pricey, though unique item.

I'm having fun with this so will probably carry it further but not sure just how that might unfold.

Top job eric!

Very nice pieces you've modeled there, I was just going through how we would of done this say 20 years ago, it would of been longer and even more pricey, it would of been out of reach to most hobbyist.

Here are some photos of the small stuff I have had printed by Shapeways.
All are plastic of various kinds except the yin/yang piece which is stainless steel.
The little boxes are about 3" tall ... the pendants about 2 and the bauble is about 3.5" in dia.

I am having fun with this ... experimenting so far ...

I have to polish my close up photography, I see.

Interesting stuff eric!

The whole idea of your models just appearing in your mailbox one day is pretty cool...

One of those materials looks a lot like terra cotta in the photos.

Yes, it does look like terra cotta ... everyone who sees the pieces is immediately attracted to those with that material.

Imagine, all the way from the Netherlands in a matter of days from placing the order.
