Full Version: Baviera Village + Perf complaint

Hello

Well not really a complaint, because I enjoy MoI quite a lot in my everyday jobs.

When I start a new project, MoI let me model stuffs in light speed, however, when the model is starting to be a little bit more complex (And it happends really quickly.), my production
speed decrease a lot. So of course I try to manage it, dividing the scene and working on single parts in other MoI session etc ... but still.

I hope Michael will find some time in next version to speed the viewport a little bit. I was thinking maybe having an option to decrease the sexy curves quality.
(a bit like the 'add to details in inflections'). I know it's one of the MoI selling point, but I'll love to sacrifice some visual to speed up my screen feedback.

(Btw I know the 'hidden lines display' kill the perf too etc ...)

.

Hi PaQ, awesome Bavarian village!

I do have some things on my list for v3 to help with heavier scenes.

You've probably seen that drawing edges tends to be the most time consuming area, if you hide all edges, does your village speed up by a lot?

The edge display is currently set to break edges down into a very smooth display, so that the lines drawn on the screen are within 1 pixel of the true curve. I'd like to add something that will degrade that automatically if things are taking a while to draw, so that the edge display would get somewhat more jagged but faster on heavier scenes.

Also, yes definitely hidden lines causes a big hit because it forces all curves to be drawn in an additional separate pass.

Hi Michael,

Great, nice to ear you'll care about it, I know MoI is more focused on 'simple' objet creation, but it's a soo powerfull (and simple) tool :)

>> does your village speed up by a lot?

Yes a lot of course, probably 2 or 3 time faster.

OT. Super modeling Paq. Well done.

Good question and I will use the hide edges until v3.

Very nice model PAQ.

Are we going to see a textured render?
