Full Version: One of these objects has a hexagon face - How did it get there

You can use the Edit > Trim command for that.

In your file "Line versus Face Question.3dm", select the top face of the shorter bolt, run
Edit >Trim, select the hexagon as the cutting object. Check the "Keep all joined" checkbox
and push "Done".

Note that the hexagon is floating a little bit above the top face.

When you select an entire solid as the object to trim, if the cutting object is on one of the
faces it will cut just that face. If it is floating above the solid and not on a face then it will
get projected onto all faces of the solid.

So to avoid projection in your case here either select the top face as the object to trim, or
move the hexagon curve down so it is on the top face and then you could select either
the whole solid or the top face as the object to trim.
