Full Version: Untrim not working

From: SebKaine

Hi,

I have an object with letters trimmed on a patch. I have selected all the edge curves and hit delete. Most of the text is now gone, and the untrim has work.
But 2 elements are impossible to delete. whatever i do they can't be deleted.

How would proceed in this scenario to do an untrim ?

Thanks for your time.
Cheers
E

Hi SebKaine, for this case untrim steps are like this:

Select this face:

Use Edit > Separate to break it out to be by itself and not joined:

Now to untrim you will need to select all the edges that make up a trim boundary. A quick way to do this is to select one edge:

Then use Ctrl+A to select all edges:

Then use Delete to remove that trim boundary and recover the underlying surface:

Thanks for your fast answer Michael.

So it is not possible to juste delete the font trim. As the trim affect all the contour it will be considered as a one trim.
So if i want to rebuild this patch without the font hole, but keeping the other trim what is my best option ?
I need to :
- untrim the patch
- recreate a new projection curves by rebuilding the actual contour curves but without the font
- then reproject the reconstructed curves and trim again ?

Problem is that your surface is not plane even the untruming seems a rectangle! :)

If you copy past only the original perimeter you will see that function Plane on this prerimeter will not works!

Solution for the next timz is make some reccordings during the modeling at each principal steps!

That you can make but

Trim your 2 surfaces with a quadrilater around your letters

Then fill the hole with network (after join necessary edges) !

You will have always this new perimeter apparent!
(else hide it in Types pannel)

Well i finally get what i want with an untrim and trim from curves. maybe not perfect but good enough.

Hi SebKaine,

Yes, but you can trim with the edges of the neighboring faces, you don't need to do a separate projection step.

So after separating out the face, select this trim boundary (select 1 edge then Ctrl+a):

Delete and you'll have the underlying surface:

Select it and run Edit > Trim, and select the neighboring edges as the cutting objects:

Don't forget this little edge here:

Inside the Trim command select these pieces to discard:

This is maybe more precise than mine but maybe less speedy ! :)
