Close the bottom part I am wondering as well how this would be done I am guessing cutting and blend?

With the pieces i made, after getting the shapes better and design closer, i would boolean parts together to see if fillet can give the desired result. If i needed more “melty” look i would gap the intersections and run blend. If the desired blends cant be achieved at this stage, keep the shape and then process more in a sculpt program after modeling is done, as long as those final poly op’s were end of the line for the pipeline.
