Hi, I was wondering if there is anyway to control the edge flow on export. I am primarily using Moi to create low poly models and although I can retopo the exported models in Cinema4d, it would be faster if the flow of polys could be controlled somewhat before the mesh export .
I can create my model and project curves onto it in MOI with the kind of topology that I want, but when I export the curves and surface together, MOI takes no notice of those curves when generating the output mesh.
Is there some other way to influence the output/export mesh that Im missing? Cheers

For C4D better to use Ngon seems remember that it accepts them!
PS you can trim (option keep) your volumes by your curves!
Like that you will have the trimming wanted! ;)

Hi Simon,
re:

Sorry no there isn't a way to do that - Moi's mesher is focused on a different goal. It tries to generate an n-gon mesh that has a wireframe that resembles the CAD model. Using the CAD model's topology is part of that rather than generating a completely different topology.
A major area where these mesh types (keeping clean CAD wireframe vs generating edgeflow/all quads) diverge is at planar faces. The CAD wireframe approach that MOI is focused on wants to put one n-gon on a planar face like the top cap of a cylinder for example, while an edgeflow mesh will need to divide those areas up into lots of quads with some poles.
If you want to discard the CAD topology entirely that's a process that is better done in a poly modeling program where there is already an entire toolset in place for that work. MOI doesn't try to replicate that.
Another disconnect between these areas is that usually a CAD model already has smoothing built in to the geometry so trying to generate an all quad sub-d friendly topology to apply more smoothing is not needed and actually will tend to mutate the shape and lose accuracy. Your particular needs may be different.

As you can see your projected curve trimming volume is take in count in the Obj exporter ! ;)

Thanks for getting back so fast. Yes, I tried using trim along with 'keep all joined' which seems to get me most of the way there. Thanks!!
..and Happy New Year!
