I meant in a script.
Maybe I'm not understanding your request though, the page you referenced was for a Grasshopper module, it's kind of like a building block that can be used by a script.
If you just want to create some geometry like that then yes constructing it as a sub-d control cage using a poly modeling program would probably be the most feasible. Sub-d tends to work well for branching structures like that.
