Full Version: How to flatten (unwrap) a curved surface.

Happy xmas.
The pic shows the fuselage for a DH. vampire I am planning to build and fly, in 5mm foamboard.
I have divided the basic shape into sections, and I wish to cut them into closely approximate shapes, which I will hot glue together to replicate the model shown.

Is there a way to take each section in MOI, unroll the surface, and use the outline for a laser toolpath?

Free Onshape on Line has that!
Accepts 3dm import / Export! ;)

Thanks Pilou
I will give onshape a try.
Meanwhile, I found lamina after a search of our site.
I am excited about it because it can unwrap STL files...allegedly

Hi simon, there is also Pepakura designer:
https://pepakura.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura_designer/
which is meant for papercraft work but it might be useful.

Crikey Michael. This software is magic!

It seems to have done exactly what I wanted without any issues!!!

And it does STL files!!!
