Yes but what I meant is you do not get the center option unless you are trying to do a command? or maybe I am missing something?

Yes I got your pm and I will look into it. tnx!

Hi Matadem, I've considered that before, the issue is that it's somewhat intrusive.

One of the things that makes it easier to have the edit frame on all the time is that it goes on the outside of your selection and not inside of it.

Ok but usually if you are highlighting something you are already thinking of doing something to that object.
it always gets me when I am working lol...because I can move it by grabbing at its side but not at its center.

One more thing about shortcut management...I always get lost to remember all the shortcuts for the scripts I have setup.
I was looking at this Nvil tutorial and at 15 sec https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8q2K6H3SLM

you can very quickly setup your shortcuts for a single letter or number to activate different actions while your ui still remains clean.

Tnx!

Hi Matadem, yes I've got some ideas on setting up something like a catalog of commands and script functions so you could set the command for a shortcut key to a descriptive label from the catalog.

It will take a lot of work to set that up so it hasn't risen up to the top of the list as of yet.

If you need help remembering you could do something simple like write up a list of your shortcuts in a word processor.

If you only use those scripts occasionally you could also set up the "script library" from the CustomUI mod:

https://moi3d.com/download/scripts/max/CustomUI.2.0.beta2.zip
https://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=6507.268

That will add a "Scripts" button on the bottom toolbar which will pop up a menu, then you run installed scripts by picking off that menu instead of by shortcut key.

Good day.
Back to this ..yesterday I was modeling a simple gearbox housing in order to get as close...I need to mockup the gear shape.

So i quickly draw the shape of the gear and needed to move it around but I could not get the center on the top to put it where I want it...so to me it took a bit more than necessary....attached on the pic.

What would be another way of doing this?

Tnx!

I would add 1 more step. You can do a quick copy and paste of the top edge/curve and use BoundingBoxCenter to get a point there to pick. Then include the point with your selections.

For solids bounding box. Then i move the cube around with its contents. Obviously this will only work if the center you are trying to pick is the center of your object

Hi Matadem, can you please post the .3dm model file instead of just the screenshot?

It's probably best to use the Revolve command to make this type of shape

I have loft it and I removed the curves, boolean union....once the curves removed you can no longer select the center on top.

tnx.

I'm not seeing the curves to loft in that .3dm file.

Can you please post the .3dm file that matches what you write about so I can repeat the steps?

Thanks, - Michael

All are lofted.
the first is lofted with the bottom extruded, curves deleted, boolean union
the second is lofted curves deleted
the 3d is lofted and left as is and here you can pickup the center.

Tnx.

Hi Matadem, thanks for posting the file.

Inside the Loft command, you can set the option for "Profiles: Exact" :

With that set, you should then get center snaps on the top and bottom faces, can you confirm?

Yes that did it!

When you draw for long hours every little bit that can save time helps.

Thank you!
