Plasticity a direct competitor to MOI3D and only on the scene for a short while already has a series on car modeling. I've been hoping something like this for MOI3D.

Not knowing Plasticity I wonder if I could adopt some of the techniques in this tutorial to MOI3D.

Hi Ken, here are some related videos for techniques you can use for car modeling in MOI:

But car modeling is a quite difficult and advanced area of modeling. If the tutorial you link above is just what you need then it would probably be easiest for you to follow it using Plasticity.

Thanks for the link Michael, I truly appreciate it. However at my age 70 anything with out narration is too difficult to follow with one eye watching the video and the other eye trying to read the text. Again thanks.

Hi Ken, sorry those are not of help to you.

So I would recommend to use Plasticity for your car modeling so you can follow along with that tutorial that you like.

That seems like the best bet for what you want to accomplish.

As I said, I do not own or use Plasticity.

But if I must ,I will opt to purchase Plasticity instead of upgrading to MOI3D ver 5.0.

I much prefer the user interface of MOI3D over Plasticity. I find Plasticity's UI confusing and awkward.

But I do like how Plasticity uses the same shortcuts as Blender. I wish more apps would adopt this.

Plasticity does not have a user forum like MOI3d, It has a discord channel. I do not like discord. I prefer user forums.

Despite Plasticity being the newer kid on the block there are much more easy to follow how-to's, tutorials and tips on youtube.
Many are done at a near pro level with clear narration.

Sadly MOI3D does not have as many users willing to share their tips and techniques on youtube like Plasticity.

For some reason which escapes me, Plasticity appears to be favored for automotive modeling.

If ALL the above was equal, I would be a MOI3D user for life as I find MOI3D a much more pleasant experience.
MOI3D is fantastic, but lacks the user support and tutorials like Plasticity.

Cheers and take care...

I bought it and returned it.
Very poor export abilities, kudos to MoI.

I did download the trial version over an year ago. I used it until it expired. I did not enjoy the interface.

I recently downloaded a trial of the newer version but I could not run it as I was advised my trial period was over.

I contacted Nick Allen asking if I could have an extension to my trial, explaining I would like to trial the newer version.

He declined my request, suggesting I should purchase Plasticity.

I made a similar request once to Michael when I was trying out MOI3D and he was more then happy to comply.

So, I am uncertain at present what to do.

Cheers and thanks for the reply.

Hi Ken,

I hope you are doing well :-)

I've learned a great deal from the tutorials made by "Mr. Schweger AKA Zarkow." His tutorials are packed with useful information! Yes, they don't have audio, but I think there's no need for it. You can watch his tutorials repeatedly until you understand them. If you still have trouble grasping what he is doing, you can come to the forum and ask about his methods. I’m sure there are forum members who can help you :-)

I also have a suggestion for you. Many people believe they should learn something thoroughly before starting their projects. However, I think this approach might not always be the best. Sometimes, it's better to start doing something and learn along the way! So, my suggestion for you: start modeling your car (if that’s what you want) and then, when you run into a problem after watching Mr. Schweger's tutorials, just jump on the forum and ask for help. I guarantee you will receive a great deal of support :-)

Additionally, I must say, Michael’s creation of MOI3D is one of the most genius ideas I’ve witnessed! As they say, "Genius people look for simplicity!" and MOI3D is the definition of this. I was amazed to find out you can use MOI3D for making functional mechanical devices even without motion simulation features! It even has parametric modeling features like "Nodes." and needless to say there are Gods of "Nodes modeling" who are willing to help! Combining all these aspects, you can create magic! It’s absolutely stunning!

The only feature I wish MOI3D had is something like xNurbs, though I know Michael believes in polygonal modeling solutions for that type of modeling, and I trust his judgment.

Sorry for the lengthy reply. In essence, I suggest you start modeling your car(s).

Best regards,
Psygorn

Hi Ken,

The attached image is made with MOI3D and a bunch of other softwares (Blender, 123Ddesign, etc.) the intention was to recreate Zarkow's recent creation -the images attached by Pilou- using MOI instead of Plasticity. and as you can see something similar has been created. ( and do not forget that Zarkow is a Master! and he has years of experience in his arsenal, so, I don't expect myself to be able to beat him yet! but I am happy that he shares his knowledge with us they are really inspirational - Thank you Zarkow- needless to say I pray for more MOI3D tutorials by him- may my prayers would be heard! even though they are audio less! )

@Pilou what do u think about it-the image-?

@Michael, what is the limit size of MOI3D? I mean the .3dm file is around 300 MB! (I haven't reached these sizes before! and MOI starts to getting slow! when it does it's calculations it's as if it will take for ages!"

If you don't know Vizcom try it! it's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious ! ;)
And it's free (only difference is one generation against 4 for the pro at each process!

And for makes car from a sketch ... it's totally amazing!

Just a test even not refined!

Thanks for the kind words,

Yes doing OK but a tad busy as my 93 year old fathers primary caregiver.

Over the past couple of years I have watched and re-watched Schweger AKA Zarkow.

I simply find them to difficult to follow.

It would be like reading the subtitles to an action move which has no narration.
While reading the dialogue, you miss the action.

I have completely given up on his videos.

I learned Blender, Silo3D, 3D Coat and DAZ Studio from many fine youtube videos.

Again thanks for the reply, I truly appreciate it. But Schweger AKA Zarkow's videos are not for me.

Cheers

Hi Psygorn,

There is not really a single hard size limit, it depends on a lot of factors like what hardware you're on and the particular type of geometry you are using (like lots of little fillets).

If things are bogging down in 3D view navigation you can try going to Options > View and set Mesh angle to 25 and uncheck "Add detail to inflections". That will make for a rougher looking display but faster.

Hi Ken,

it is great that u show persistency in learning new stuff with all the hectic life you have. Keep up the good work :-)

>Over the past couple of years I have watched and re-watched Schweger AKA Zarkow.
>I simply find them to difficult to follow.

As I said it before I personally believe Zarkow's tutorials are not easy to follow but I believe it is because they are packed with info! So, Yes I know it is not easy to follow his tutorials but I believe it is not because they are audio less.

And I have a suggestion for you :-) maybe u can start a thread calling it "Zarkow's methods" or "Analyzing Zarkow's methods" or whatever u prefer. and there u can ask which part u did not get in his tutorials :-) , and possibly u can upload screenshots of his tutorials or links to his tutorials but please be specific about what u want to achieve or what u want to repeat therefore, great folks of the forum could help u.

Best,
Psygorn

Sorry, I do not want to start a thread war, I find his tutorials difficult BECAUSE they HAVE NO AUDIO.
I have that problem with any tutorial that has no audio.

I was employed for 35+ years in IT. First 5 years as a database programmer - dBase, Clipper , Visual Basic front end for SQL databases.

Later there was not a great demand for database programmers in Halifax. However there was a demand for LAN Administrators.
Most networks were Novell Netware in my area in the early 1990s. So I self taught myself Netware 3.11 . My technical training and education was as a programmer.

Over the past 20-25 years Novel Netware evolved from a stand alone operating system, to a file/print/ directory service running on SUSE Linux, which Novel purchased.

Last 10 years at work, we moved from Netware on SUSE to Windows server.

I've been retired since 2018 and now computers are one of my hobbies.

I've self taught myself UNRAIS's NAS based on Slackware Linux and have two UNRAID servers at home.

I have an Ubuntu server running SAMBA file and print services.

I 've built all four of my computers, but recently purchased an used Lenovo m720q for a firewall, either pfsense or opnsense.
Presently watching tutorials on pfsense/opnsense as well as KVM hypervisor.

To learn Photoshop, Lightroom, Corel Painter and Rebelle (painting app) fI watched youtube.
Same for photogrammetry (3DF Zephyr), I watched youtube.

I do not like any tutorial video which has NO audio. Period, end of discussion. I find them too difficult to follow.
