Full Version: Filetting Filigree

Hey All,

Here's the design:

I'd like to round off or fillet the top sections of the patterns and have tried selecting edges and surfaces, but haven't been successful.

Could someone please explain how I can achieve this?

Many thanks in advance.

For this sort of thing
Better to seperate all forms!

And not use mm !
Here i scale by 100
Use no unities
Acis don't works!
Only Solids ++

Max fillet is here 0.4 (depending of the admissible max along the top face perimeter!

Thank you Pilou, separating forms is no problem. The issue is I'd like to have the solid patterns rounded at the top and not just a small fillet along the edges.

Like this:

How would I go about doing that?

Many thanks,
Gunter

Hi Gunter,

Is this for 3D printing, for CNC milling, or for rendering?

When you draw with less sharp angles you can increase the fillet!

Here 4 max 4 for example so x 10 from above

Don't seen your last example! :)

Hi Peer,

It's for 3D resin printing.

Thanks,
Gunter

With your last example

I believe that you must make some lofts so some sections! ;)

Or some subdivisions... ? :)
Look at this bible thread of subdivide in MOi! ;)

Hi Gunter,

Since this is for 3D printing you are almost certainly better off using a different type of software like ZBrush. Here's a tutorial on filigree.

Making filigree in MoI, or any other NURBS CAD software, would be quite challenging and time consuming. The only reason I can imagine doing that would be if the part needed to be milled.

Hi Gunter, yes like Peer writes above it will be difficult to make an organic form like you want in a CAD program where the focus is more on mechanical parts.

You may want to check out 3D Coat in addition to ZBrush for making that type of model.
