I'm seeing similar problems with ACIS as Martin. In this case I used a circle to Boolean subtract instead if a cylinder, and end up with 2 180 deg. arcs.
The Solids++ version works as expected

Dan, try a G1, G2, or G3 blend - I'm getting the same fault with them.

Martin.

Hi Martin, thanks for reporting this - it should get fixed when I improve the conversion to ACIS to use sphere primitives instead of general NURBS surfaces. At the moment only planes and cylinders get converted to analytic entities in ACIS.

Thanks for that, Michael.
Did you notice my reply to Dan, regarding the fact this fault is also there with G1, G2 and G3 blends?

Martin.

Hi Martin, that's expected for G1/G2/G3 blend modes - those do not generate a torus as the fillet result unlike Circular mode should.

It's amazing, I have a problem for constant distance ACIS, but not for circular.

Hi Michael,

Here's a minor problem where ACIS doesn't work when using the red surface as selection (works with Solid++). ACIS works however if the fillet is applied directly one the 2 circular edges from that surface.

Hi PaQ, thanks for reporting this. Can you please check what v5 beta release you are using? Over here it seems to be working ok with the face selection in the most recent Apr-13-2023 v5 beta release.

Hi Michael,
Unless I am mistaken, variable radius fillets do not currently work with ACIS.

yes variable fillets don't work yet with Acis..

It was with MoI 5.0 beta Apr-13-2023 ... however I can't reproduce it either today in fresh session with that same file, sorry for the false alert :O)

EDIT : actually it wasn't with the last beta ... my bad .

Hi Zooen,

re:

They were working in a previous v5 beta, then they got broken in this current beta release and they will be back again for the next beta release.

Thanks for your reply Michael.

I am confident about the evolution of this fantastic 3D MoI with the ACIS system and the next innovations to come.

Hi blackboard,

re:

I don't know yet, I have not had a chance yet to dig into the direct modeling functionality in ACIS quite yet.

Hi Michael,

A quick question,

in MOI do we have a command to change normal of the surfaces. ( I have a model when I import it in 123D design in there there are some faces that become invisible, although MOI says it is a solid mesh I think it is because of the normal of the faces.)

You can use VDrop and V Orient by Max Smirnov
for see normals of "One" surface and orient them

Hi Psygorn,

re:
> in MOI do we have a command to change normal of the surfaces.

There is a Flip command that can reverse the surface normal direction on an open surface:
https://moi3d.com/4.0/docs/moi_command_reference10.htm#flip

But it won't do anything on a closed solid because solids are automatically oriented with normals pointing outwards from the solid volume.

re:

It's more likely that there's some kind of problem in the trimming boundaries of those faces.

It's hard to know what's going on without being able to test with the actual geometry though, can you please post it or e-mail it to me at moi@moi3d.com?

Thanks, - Michael

Hi Michael.

I ran into a problem with the Edit Frame when using it to mirror an ellipse. Both need to be tangent to one another for later trimming, so the mirror needs to be accurate.
It seems the correct bounding box dimensions are available in the Edit Size box, but MoI is not using them in this instance. The linked video shows the problem quite well.

Thanks.
Martin.

Thanks for reporting this bug, I can repeat it over here and have put it on my list to investigate.

For now to complete your drawing you can use the BoundingBox command followed by Transform > Mirror to get the precise mirrored result.
