Hi guys,

I need to import an FBX file, delete some geometries and then export it again .... is it possible to do this with moi?

You can export fbx not import fbx with Moi

You can try convert fbx in OBJ format by the free Mesh Lab https://www.meshlab.net
then by Native Moi function SUBDiv / Create from file import this OBJ File
or By _importOBJ by Max Smirnov http://moi.maxsm.net/files/scripts/ImportObj.v.1.5.2015.09.10.zip
Better if your obj file is quadrangulated
maybe something like free Instant meshes can do this quadrangulate (more easy than meshLab)

Hi Tony,

Usually FBX files contain polygon mesh geometry, not NURBS surface geometry like MoI works with for modeling.

So you would need to use a polygon mesh editing program to do this kind of work on polygon mesh data, MoI is not set up to work with that kind of model data.

Ok Michael

Thanks :)

Old thread but it still comes up first when you search for importing FBX into MoI, so adding a simpler route for the conversion step. If you don't want to install MeshLab just to convert one file, https://furnimesh.com/convert/glb-to-obj turns FBX or GLB into OBJ in the browser with the scale intact, and then Pilou's _ImportOBJ route takes over from there exactly as described above. Michael's point still stands, what you get is polygon mesh reference geometry, not NURBS you can edit in MoI.

Welcome, JSNM,

You don’t always need AI to create something with MoI3D.

“Michael’s point still stands: what you get is polygon mesh reference geometry, not NURBS that you can edit in MoI.” But this can be complicated and time-consuming.
Very often, you can create that thing yourself directly in MoI. And what a joy that is!
