I intuitively was doing what you recommend, though was using a Boolean as oppose to Join to glue the surface back together.
So thanks for the tip!

My main challenge is when I get edges like that, that are close to another edge I am trying to Filet per say. It seems the Filet can be blocked by the construction line as oppose to ignore it and glide right pass it.

Your proposed solution works perfectly fine. Thanks a lot!
