Deform "Flow" - Local bend

Flow only works by deforming the entire object - the way that it functions makes it difficult to stop the deformation abruptly, especially right in the middle of one single surface for example. So your base and target objects should run the entire extent of the object. But depending on what you want to do, you can get a more localized effect by making sections of your target curve to be straight, something like this for example:

For tapering in one direction , set up a regular plane as the base object, and a tapered plane (built by using loft, not a trimmed surface) as the target as shown here:

For tapering in 2 directions you could try setting up a cylinder as the base surface and a tapered cylinder as the target surface but that may be a bit difficult currently - there will probably be a "cage deformation" tool in the future which will make that easier.
