Hi Teddy - you can use the Transform > Move command to move an object precisely. That allows for more specific control over the positioning of an object than just dragging. Dragging is intended to be a quick shortcut for simple positioning.

To run it, select the object and run Transform > Move, then at the first prompt Moi will ask you for the base point which is the point on the object you want to locate. If you want to locate the center of the object's bounding box, you can at this stage push the "Bounding box center" button which shows up in the command options area here:



That button is provided to make it easier to grab the center of an object even if there does not happen to be any convenient snap point there.

You are exactly describing the Transform > Move command here - it works by picking 2 points, first a point on the object (or the object's bounding box center by clicking the button for that option as shown above), then you pick a target point and you can either click that target point or type in coordinates for the target point just as you describe.

Please give that command a try since it does what you are asking about.
