Sounds like you probably want to use the "Twist: Flat" option for sweep - that will make the profile to only rotate around one single axis line and it won't do any twisting or banking as it travels along the path.

That's an option in the command options for Sweep which shows up in the upper right corner of the main window when you are in the last stage of the sweep command. There's an example here:
