Thanks for the suggestion. I was aware of the possibility of selecting by element type but that is not the functionality I am after. I want to be able to select specific edges on multiple objects at the same time.


Something like you can do in Cinema 4d or a mesh modeler where you go into edge, face or point mode. Or like Rhino when you run the untrim command or extract surface command.
