I searched this discussion forum, but didn't notice anything that addressed this question.
I'm working with a client that uses Solidworks to design their products. I've been sent some STEP files from them, but haven't been very happy with the results. I know absolutely nothing about Solidworks, so I'm at a loss when it comes to worthwhile suggestions for their designers.
One of the biggest issues (which I already posted about here, for other reasons) is that the STEP files are not importing in MOI (nor Rhino) with any of the layer names for any of the many objects in their files. I only get one single joined model. I've confirmed with them, that they do, indeed, have proper layer names for each and every piece of the product, but it's just not translating in the STEP export process.
So...
For any of you with Solidworks experience, can you possibly give me some pointers about how to get the best STEP exports, so I can work with these things in MOI? Is there an issue with them exporting from either their "assembly" file or "part" file?
Thanks!
