Basic Boolean Question

I have basic question about boolean operators. Let's say I "drilled" a hole in a solid in the wrong place and I want to fill the hole. Of course I can insert an extruded cylinder of that exact height and aligned and then union the two together to fill the hole.

Is there a more efficient method I'm missing where I can just fill the hole with a solid and then have an operator remove the parts that are not intersecting and then union what is left? I'm guessing this basic but I'm not seeing it right now.

Thanks,
Scott
