Work flow from Maya to MOI?

Hi Elliot, what particular kind of object have you created in Maya, did you make a NURBS object in there or a polygon mesh type object over there?

Those are very different kinds of 3D objects - Maya has different functions for working on each of those kinds of objects but MoI is only focused on the NURBS kind of object and not on working with polygon mesh data.

So if it's polygons that you created in Maya it will not be very straightforward to bring that in to MoI, MoI is not meant to work on faceted polygon data.

If you have constructed NURBS surface data in Maya then you'd use IGES format for transfer into MoI. But since you say that did not work for you I suspect you have constructed polygon mesh type objects in Maya and not NURBS objects. Your polygon mesh objects will only work in other polygon mesh editing programs, not in MoI.

If you have a polygon mesh object with a simple structure and not very many facets in it, you could try the OBJ to 3DM wireframe converter from here:
http://moi3d.com/resources#Obj23dmWireframe_converter

That converter will take in an OBJ file with polygons in it and write out a 3DM file with either lines or closed polylines for each polygon. You can then use that line data in MoI for some kinds of constructions. But if you have a polygon mesh object with a high number of facets in it that generally won't work very well. NURBS data is not really designed to be made up of a whole bunch of little flat surfaces.
