Computer memory

Hi DW, I think any new machine you get would have enough memory and hard disk space to run MoI fine, you only really need to worry about those things if you're going to be undertaking highly complex and detailed projects.

Basically if you have enough memory to run the operating system fine then MoI should be fine as well. Since RAM is not as expensive as it used to be, I don't think it's very common anymore for manufacturers to sort of overly skimp on it on the low end of the scale as used to be the case. Something like 2GB would probably be around the base minimum you'd want to consider at all, and 4GB would probably help a fair bit to keep things from bogging down (not so much with MoI itself, more just keeping the operating system running smoothly). Just a quick look over the cheapest laptops on newegg, it seems that 4GB is pretty standard even for the least expensive systems these days.

For hard disk space you don't need anything special there at all, a typical basic MoI design will probably range around something like 100KB-500KB in size, you will be able to fit quite a lot of projects even in just 1GB of disk space.

So really any laptop with 4GB and any sized disk would work fine for basic or medium level complexity stuff. MoI is not very demanding on system resources as compared to many other CAD programs in general. Some other kinds of CAD programs like SolidWorks, Pro/E etc... tend to demand higher system specs with nVidia or ATI graphics cards to run well though, so that may be something to consider if you are planning on using other CAD software on the machine as well.
