It's pretty easy for lofting to a point to make an awkwardly pinched area in the kind of way you're trying to use it here. You may have better luck using the "Loft style: Loose" option rather than the regular loft - the regular loft applies a lot of "pressure" onto the generated shape since it is forced to go through each section rather than only being guided by each section.

But probably a different approach like Mauro shows above is a better idea for your case.
