That's great news it was approved!

And yes, with these particular kinds of fonts it is expected that they would only work for creating curves and not for constructing surfaces or solids - the fonts are formed in a non-standard way such that they do not form a closed path which is normally how font outlines are supposed to be constructed. You have to have a closed path in order to build a surface or solid.
