Giving yourself small and simple goals are a great way to teach yourself different modeling techniques, even by brute force.

Also, learning how to sketch shape and form on real paper before every more major project will pay you dividends in the modeling process.

He uses SketchUp, and though upon closer inspection the surfaces are polygon-based, which is inherently rough, his techniques of using basic forms would translate well to other modelers.


I myself, have been floundering on a vehicle project. My sketch did not translate well to the model. It may take a dozen vehicles before I get the knack for it.
