I use TheaRender and am very happy with it. I want something very easy to use that is forgiving but is able to output from multiple render engines in a standalone application, which Thea provides. I also use modo but with every release have been more and more frustrated with not being able to easily get the output right. I'm quite aware that it is probably just how my brain is wired that is incompatible with how modo works. I am actually thinking of moving to Maxon C4D Studio and using the TheaRender plugin since I do need to tweak the polys now and then. I believe that TheaRender also has a modo plugin. I know it has to do more with the artist than the tools but I think individuals like Rich Art do some pretty great renders with C4D.
