Pop out towards the left you mean? That then wouldn't work when the scene browser was configured to be on the left side of the screen which is possible by setting it to "Opposite" mode right now.

Also if I understand you correctly that would then instead cover up the eye/lock area where you can click to hide or show things.

I guess it could be possible to let things be covered up initially but then hide the pop up thing when you move your mouse over to the left or right where the clickable controls are. Seems kind of tricky though.
