Yes, that's pretty much why the default is to not create so many snap points in the first place, such as only making reflected end points and not reflected mid points.

But the solution to the difficulty that you're talking about with having a complex small area is to zoom in so that you can more easily see the different points and make it not a small area anymore.

When you find yourself running into difficulties telling points from one another, you should zoom in - try to get in a habit of doing this sooner rather than later - I mean right at the moment that it seems that you're having some difficulty zoom in there rather than wasting too much time continuing to struggle with it at the current view.
