I would think something like SpaceClaim would be easier to use for this kind of direct modeling workflow. That said, it's cool that the big boy parametric modelers are finally adding these tools. It does look more complicated than it needs to be, but I wouldn't knock it 'till I tried it. I wish one of these companies would just throw a very simple direct modeling UI over one of their advanced geometry libraries. I think it would do well.
