i have sometimes the same phenomen.
if this happens i try allways the "other" boolean operations.
and sometimes its really "backwards".

I had another thing... one time 2 objects won´t difference... i mirror them both... and the boolean works.

at the end i mostly got what i want... so.. its ok for me:-)
