Could you please describe a bit about what that would do?

Unless you have disabled the option for it (it's under Options > View > Show edit frame), there is actually already a way to rotate objects in the front view in v2.

Just select them and the edit frame will appear, it appears in each ortho view including the Front view. Then just drag the grip to rotate your object in the front view, like this:




Does that handle the kind of front rotate that you need?
