At the moment you have to use a trick - Trim the surface with your curve. This will project the curve on to the surface. Now select the trim curve and do Edit/Copy. Then undo the trim, and do Edit/Paste to paste in the projected curve.

This is a temporary workaround until there is a proper project tool, which won't be too long. It won't be for the next beta but hopefully the one after that.
