Unfortunately the Direct3D support in VirtualBox does not seem to be really finished yet, it is listed as "experimental" in this release I believe.

It does not seem to have enough parts working yet to run MoI, there was a recent discussion here: http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=2795.1

You might try VMWare instead, I think they have a Linux edition and they are further along in their Direct3D support.
