That's something that I have tried before, but unfortunately it does not work very well to have just a single point of the sketch snapped to an object, because it interrupts the smooth sequence of points with a sudden movement. It tends to create large jumps or hooks in the shape of the curve since that snapped point may not be naturally along the same brush stroke.
In the future I would like to do try to improve this to allow a sketch to snap on to an endpoint for example, but it will involve more than just snapping the point, it will probably involve transforming the whole sketch curve so that it is positioned between the snaps at the end, rather than snapping just one single point of the sketch out of line of the brush stroke flow.
It really requires something different than the regular object snaps.
And yes, as you mentioned now with the new ability to place the cplane you can control the orientation of the sketch.
