I tried something last night that worked.

1) I cut the model in half using a boolean and a cube.

2) I then mirrored the half ship.

3) I then turned off history updates on both halves, one at a time.

4) I then selected both halves and did a boolean union and it worked great.

Thanks for the assistance anyway. That helps me in my bag of tricks.
