No, Add point will only add in a new point, it won't delete or change any existing points.

It would be difficult to get the point directly on top of the old one, because there shouldn't be a snap enabled on the old point.

If you want to change an existing point to a corner point, you will have to delete the old point and then insert a new corner point.
