Hi Adam, it sounds like Pilou has it all worked out for you but just to make sure you know the reason for the initial result, that was because of having a sharp corner in your sweep path.
At sharp corners the sweep segments on either side of the corner will be extended and intersected with each other to make a mitered corner. But if your path is swooping around in 3D rather than planar it is not always possible for them to be intersected so you will get the extended parts in that case.
