Do you mean so you could turn off the automatic joining and instead have the option to make the extension piece a separate fragment?

Could you please post an example file where you're having to use join separately right now?

It is actually already built into the extend command that the extended piece is automatically joined with the curve that the extension is coming off from.

Do you mean when you're doing a "mutual extend" by extending 2 polylines to meet each other where both are being extended?
