Hi tech - do you possibly have grid snap enabled, meaning is "Grid snap" highlighted in orange in the bottom toolbar?

If so then when you move around the mouse it will snap to the nearest grid intersection. If you want to have the point follow your mouse more freely then you need to turn off grid snap.
