Hi David, if everything is working ok then I wouldn't think it should be normal to see a delay like that.

It seems that by far the most common issue for running on Linux is problems with the video driver. There seems to be a few different types of video drivers that you can install, one is the built-in "nouveau" one and then there is the nVidia proprietary one. If you are using nouveau currently then you might try switching to the nVidia proprietary driver instead and see if that behaves better.
