Thanks all, the burled crown protector is not right when I look at it in front of me but it views good so I'll just leave it as is.

The reasons for the left buttons is so you can wear it on your left without the crown protector digging into your wrist. This is a common occurence with large dive/military style watches with their buttons on the right. I always wore my watches on my right wrist so that was never an issue for me but this is the first I have to wear on my left due to the large crown protector.
